Visitors


Meetings are open to the public.

The committee always welcomes visitors and is always very attentive to their suggestions and input. All visitors are invited to speak if they wish to do so.

Agendas & Minutes


The committee shall keep minutes of its proceedings, which shall be a public record. Minutes of all meetings are published and distributed by electronic means, usually within 2 weeks after the meeting. If you would like to receive an an electronic copy of the minutes, please email the committee.

A majority of the committee shall constitute a quorum for conducting business.

Members


The Bikeway Advisory Committee (BBAC) shall consist of 5 members appointed by the City Council for overlapping terms of 3 years. Members of the 1st committee shall be appointed for terms of 1, 2, and 3 years respectively. Thereafter, all members shall be appointed for the full 3-year term. Current members include:

Appointment and removal of members shall be made in the manner provided by Chapter 33. Membership shall represent a wide cross-section of interests and background, including bicycling, walking, skating, and disabled mobility.

The BBAC shall elect its own officers annually and shall adopt rules necessary for the conduct of its affairs in keeping with the provisions of this ordinance.

The committee shall be staffed by a member of the Planning Department, or other department as determined by the City Manager.

About the Committee


On April 10, 2000, the City of Beavercreek passed Ordinance No. 00-11 formally establishing the BBAC. Chapter 33 of the Administrative Code was amended to read: “A Bikeway Advisory Committee is hereby created to serve as an official commission of this city under Article IX of the Charter. The duties and functions of this Bikeway Advisory Committee shall be as described in Exhibit A attached to Ordinance No 00-11 and made a part hereof."

Objective


The objective of the BBAC is to facilitate nonmotorized travel within the city by advocating the proper planning and implementation of nonmotorized improvements.

Responsibilities


  • Advocate funding be provided for nonmotorized improvements from local and nonlocal sources
  • Continue to evaluate the effectiveness of the Bikeway Plan (PDF) and assist city staff with a comprehensive update of the plan every 5 years
  • Designate 1 member to serve as a member of the Miami Valley Regional Bicycle Council
  • Ensure that city policies, practices, and programs adequately address the needs of all nonmotorized travelers
  • Ensure that the city bikeway and pedestrian planning is coordinated with adjacent communities and fits into the overall regional nonmotorized travel plan
  • Ensure that the goals, objectives, policies, and recommendations of the Beavercreek Bikeway Plan are achieved
  • Gather information on nonmotorized activity within the city, including travel volume, trip purposes and patterns, and safety and maintenance needs
  • Monitor city activities with regard to transportation and other public improvements and make recommendations to city officials, which will accommodate nonmotorized users to the maximum extent possible
  • Provide information and assistance to the City Council and Planning Commission regarding nonmotorized travel issues, and support the City Council and Planning Commission in the review of proposed developments by recommending necessary nonmotorized improvements. There shall be 1 member appointed to attend the meetings of City Council and Planning Commission
  • Seek to obtain and maintain a designation for the city by the League of American Bicyclists as a “Bicycle-Friendly Community”
  • Serve as the community advocate for increasing the level of nonmotorized travel within the city and for promoting bicycle and pedestrian safety
