The City of Beavercreek, in partnership with Beavercreek Township, Beavercreek City Schools and the Beavercreek Chamber of Commerce, received a remnant of the World Trade Center from the New York/New Jersey Port Authority to be placed in a memorial park.    The structural component of the World Trade Center was carefully selected by a local September 11th committee and was transported back to Beavercreek by two Beavercreek firefighters who were part of Ohio Task Force One that participated in rescue operations immediately after the attack.

This section is from the North Tower that was first struck on the morning of September 11, 2001.  It was located several floors above and to the left of where the airplane slammed into the tower.  It is about 23-feet in length and weighs 6,000 pounds.  The piece will be unveiled at 11:00 am on September 11, 2010 at the Beavercreek Popcorn Festival and will be placed on display for the entire weekend.

The park will be located next to Fire Station #62 on Dayton-Xenia Road.  The committee hopes that the memorial park will serve as an educational tool for those that are too young to remember the events of September 11th, 2001 and to remind all others of the lives that were lost and of the sacrifices that are made every day by our first responders.  Pictured below are preliminary renderings of what the Hero Monument may look like.
