City Receives Second Annual “Making Your Dollars Count Award” from the Auditor of the State

The City of Beavercreek has been awarded, for the second consecutive year, the “Making Your Dollars Count” award from the Auditor of State’s office for the fiscal year 2009 audit.  Fewer than five percent of all Ohio government agencies are eligible for this award.  The criteria for the award include an entity’s commitment to preparing a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), having no findings or issues present in the audit report and no financial concerns involving the City.  The award highlights that the City of Beavercreek is a trustworthy guardian of taxpayer dollars and deserves the highest amount of recognition for their vigilance.  The 2009 CAFR demonstrates the City’s commitment to careful spending, accurate fiscal recording and efficiency.  The City is truly a model for government entities throughout the state of Ohio.  These quotes were taken off the award signed by Mary Taylor, Auditor of the State which was presented to the City Manager on December 14, 2010.

“The City has made a significant commitment to providing financially responsible budgets culminating in excellence in reporting these results on an annual basis,” stated Financial Administrative Services Director Bill Kucera.  “The City residents should be proud of the City’s commitment to excellence and maintaining these high standards recognized by outside organizations.  This Making Your Dollar County Award, along with the City receiving eighteen consecutive years of the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) shows the City’s diligence in maintaining excellent stewardship of the resident’s taxes and our continued goal in reporting these results according to the highest government accounting standards now and in the future.”

City Receives Two Financial Accounting Recognition Awards

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Beavercreek by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).  The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition possible in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

CAFRs are judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standard of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.  The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,000 government finance professionals.

The City of Beavercreek earned the award for its 2008 Report by demonstrating full disclosure and clearly communicating its financial story for users to read.  The City first received this honor in 1991 and has continuously received the award each year since.  The 2008 certificate represents the 18th straight year for this achievement.
