Jerry Petrak

Over 35 years ago, Jerry and his wife chose Beavercreek as the place to raise and educate their family. All three of their children graduated from Beavercreek High School. When Jerry and his wife Gerry took up residency, Beavercreek Township was just “starting to grow.” 

There were many government and community needs, and Jerry started to participate in efforts to address the needs.  He has been an active community volunteer and elected city council member for 35 years.  He worked on the incorporation of the city, lead a neighborhood association, served on committees studying water, police performance, environmental issues, signage, and long-range planning, and was appointed to the City’s Planning Commission. During 1992 to 2004 he served on city council and held positions of mayor, vice mayor and councilman.

Jerry observed the transformation of a rural bedroom community into a thriving city with safe residential neighborhoods for families and bustling commercial centers to provide for the needs of families.  He focused his efforts on mitigating the inherent conflicts between residential and commercial development, and feels the residential areas have generally been protected.  Jerry has stated that this successful maturation of our community depended on a broad-based view of all the major entities that comprise Beavercreek - namely the City, the Schools, and the Township.  Each is excellent and dependant on each other.

Jerry is returning to City Council after a four-year sabbatical that was dictated by term limits in the City Charter.  He feels there are many critical issues that need to be addressed such as resolving the water shortage and developing long-range plans for a community center.
