CABLE TV SERVICE COMPLAINTS

The 2007 passage of Ohio Senate Bill 117 removed franchising authority from the local governmental level to the state level.  That means that the City of Beavercreek no longer has authority to regulate certain aspects of cable TV service to the Community.  That authority now belongs to the State of Ohio.

Anyone with issues regarding cable television service should first contact Time Warner's customer service line at 294-6400.  If the issue cannot be resolved, contact the Ohio Department of Commerce at 800-686-7826 or at vsa@com.state.oh.us .

BEAVERCREEK GOVERNMENT ACCESS CHANNEL 10 MOVES TO TIME WARNER CHANNEL 5

On July 27, 2007, Time Warner Cable of Southwest Ohio informed the City of Beavercreek of upcoming changes to the Government and Educational Access television channels that serve city residents. The following changes are now in effect:

  • The Beavercreek Government Access Channel is now on channel 5.
  • The Beavercreek Educational Access Channel is now on channel 21.

Beavercreek cable subscribers are encouraged to program their television or remote control to reflect these changes.

Time Warner Cable has stated that these channel changes are required to create a more universal line up throughout the Greater Dayton Area.

Beavercreek Channel 5 is the municipal television channel operated by the City of Beavercreek for Time Warner Cable customers.  Channel 5 offers live coverage of public meetings, including the City Council, Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and Parks, Recreation and Culture Board meetings.  These unedited meetings are recast throughout the month. In addition, Channel 5 covers local events such as dedications, parades and festivals.

Channel 5 can be viewed over the internet on the City website www.ci.beavercreek.oh.us. This live stream of the channel requires a high bandwidth connection. Complete TV program schedules can also be found online.
Beavercreek Channel 5 features InTouch TV, a televised bulletin board displaying public service announcements from the City and non-profit and community organizations.  The City uses this televised bulletin board to disseminate announcements such as city news, closings, advisories, public meeting agendas, and election returns.

For more information about Beavercreek media services, contact Communications Coordinator Mike Frazier at frazier@ci.beavercreek.oh.us.

ARE YOU UNABLE TO RECEIVE TIME WARNER CHANNEL 5?
Or channels 3, 4, or 6

The City has received complaints from Time Warner Cable customers about the inability to receive Beavercreek Channel 5 (formerly Beavercreek Channel 10).

Many years ago, cable TV offered premium pay channels - HBO, Showtime, etc. - on channels 3 through 6.  To prevent unauthorized access to these pay channels, the cable company installed a filter that blocked those channels from being sent to your TV.   Today, our Channel 5 and others occupy that blocked space but Time Warner neglected to remove the filter from customers who still have it.

Removing that filter is an easy task for a Time Warner technician, but they must be summoned to your home.  You can call TW at 294-6400 or 1-800-425-2225 and request this service.  If you don't hear from Time Warner in a day or two, please contact the City at 427-5100, ext., 342, or by e-mail.  We will report the issue to Time Warner Cable and insist that it be corrected as soon as possible.
