PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

The Department of Parks, Recreate, and Culture offers a variety of programs and services in addition to the parks and playgrounds.  More information is available from our City newsletter accessible from the home page.

  • Summer Camps
  • Leisure Classes - Classes can meet once, 4 times or twice each week all year.  The menu of classes is always changing to meet your needs.  Let us know what you want; let us know what you can teach.  We're always looking for new ideas and new instructors.  We are not limited.
  • Special Events - The City is involved with the Fourth of July Festivities, the Popcorn Festival, Heritage Days, and Herb Days.  These events are all run by dedicated volunteers.  If you are interested, call 427-5514 and you will be directed to the committee of your choice!
  • Streetscape - The Parks Department maintains Beavercreek's beautiful "downtown" streetscape project.  Completed in 1997, this series of lights, pavers, and landscaping enhances the center of our community.  Seasonal banners are hung for festive times.
  • In Touch's Recreation Connection - This catalog is prepared three times each year and mailed to each household in the City.  The latest program updates are included, as well as a map to find parks, details about special events, and phone numbers of organizations.  Watch for it every December, May, and August.
  • Athletic Leagues - Adult Softball, Adult Co-ed Soccer, T-Ball, and Girls Fast-Pitch Softball programs are managed by the Department.
  • Living History Program - Every spring, Wartinger Park is host to third grade students for a day of living in the past.  Students, under the supervision of knowledgeable volunteers, learn to spin, weave, hand wash, saw wood, plant a vegetable garden, make candles, make butter, shuck corn, and a variety of other "old time" skills.
  • Volunteer Recognition Event - Annually members of the Park Board and staff recognize all the hundreds of volunteers who give of their time and energy to the Department at special program, just for volunteers.  Each year, several individuals are recognized for outstanding merit.
  • Seasonal Employment - The Department hires seasonal workers to mow and trim the parks, weeding, raking, shoveling, planting and other jobs assigned by the section leader.  One softball field supervisor and one Parks intern are also hired.  Please contact the City Human Resources Department.
  • Banner Program - The Department assists various community organizations in promoting their valuable community events by hanging decorative banners throughout the city.  You will see the Popcorn Festival, Creek Classic, Beavercreek Community Theater, and the Fourth of July featured Regularly.
  • Shelter Reservations - Reserve a shelter at one of our parks for your picnic.  It's free!  Just fill out a permit at the office.   Permits are available January 1 for the entire year.
  • Summer Concerts
  • Motorcycle Rider Education
  • Cemeteries - The Parks Department maintains seven cemeteries, with three still actively selling lots.
