Police Frequently-Asked Questions
Q. What if I call 9-1-1 by mistake?
A. First of all, do not hang up on the 9-1-1 operator. Explain that the call was made in error and everything will be OK. If you hang up, the 9-1-1 operator will call back. If it is busy or no answer, an officer will be sent to investigate.
Q. I was put on hold when I called the police department, why?
A. Please remember that our communications operators answer all call for service for the police and the fire departments, as well as call for officers, detectives, civilians and administration. You will always be asked if your call is an emergency if you call the non-emergency number.
Q. Can I complain about a ticket?
A. If you receive a citation, and feel the charge was not substantiated, you need to contest the citation in a court. If your complaint is about the treatment you received or the actions of the officer in your dealings with them, then please contact the on-duty supervisor to discuss your experience.
Q. How do I pay a parking ticket?
A. Bring the ticket and the fine to the communications center at the police department 24 hours a day, or mail it in to the address on the citation. Please remember, this does NOT go on your driving record.
Q. How do I get a copy of a police report?
A. Visit our records section at the hours listed above, or mail in a request for a copy. If mailing in the request, you can call to get the cost of the report prior to mailing in the request. Payment must accompany the request as well as a self addressed stamped envelope.
Q. Can I have the police department check for tickets on my license?
A. No. In accordance with our agreement with the Ohio BMV, we cannot disclose the contents of a driving record, not even to the individual it is for. You can contact the Ohio BMV and make the request.
Q. What can I do about speeding vehicles in my neighborhood?
A. As with any other request for service, contact our communications center and explain the complaint. Several options will be considered; officers may monitor the traffic for special enforcement, our traffic coordinator may add the area to the list of speed trailer placement locations, and most importantly, your district officers will monitor the situation.
Q. Why do I have to go to the Fairborn Municipal Court if I received a citation in Beavercreek?”
A. Beavercreek falls under the venue of The Fairborn-Beavercreek Municipal Court, a joint court for both communities as well as other agencies.
Q. I collect police patches. Can I get a Beavercreek Police patch?
A. We are sorry, but we do not provide patches to individuals who are not employed by the Department.
